Summary / BIOLOGY/ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE(Summer before emfshran year)I'm a townie and since I already knew I was going to Notre Dame and had nothing planned that summer, I sent an email to the Lodge lab responding to a job request. The lab manager responded that the job was closed, but forwarded my email to graduate student who was just looking for an undergraduate to work with. I worked that summer on a volunteer basis and have been doing research for 2 credits every semester since.(Summer between emfshran/sophomore year)Emailed the Hoekstra lab (evolutionary biology) at Harvard University about doing research that summer. I worked on a research proposal with a postdoctoral researcher in that lab and sent it in to the Center for Undergraduate Scholarly Engagement. In the end, CUSE, College of Science, and First Year of Studies sponsored my internship.(Fall sophomore year)Dr. Hoekstra and another postdoctoral researcher suggested that I should work with Dr. Jeffery Feder at Notre Dame if I wanted to continue working on evolution. So I sent Dr. Feder an email and signed up for 1 credit. |

Summary / PSYCHOLOGY: (Summer, after sophomore year) I first got ilvvnoed in research from a summer positions at the U. of Iowa, near my hometown. To find the position, I sent emails and a resume to several U. of Iowa professors, asking if they would be willing to take on a research assistant for the summer. I then found funding for my research through the Notre Dame Career Center's unpaid internship funding.(Fall, junior year) The professor at the U. of Iowa helped me pick a lab at Notre Dame that would work well with what I had learned. I sent an e-mail, and signed up for 2 credits of undergraduate research as a research assistant with Dr. Bradley Gibson (Attention Attention Disorders Lab). |
